The world seems to wake up every time it rains. The daily dust is washed away and all the summer colors shine so vividly that it’s hard to believe that God made them for us to witness. After the tremendous roar of a downpour everything falls quiet; hushed, dampened and bejeweled with new life.
While trying to find a photo for today’s Friday post I stumbled across this gem that my mom sent me a couple of years ago and couldn’t keep from smiling. Only in Colorado can you go hiking with your local priest to some remote, snow melt, mountain lake and be a witness as he celebrates mass there. Although this is an experience that I’ve yet to be blessed with, I’m praying for the day that the hubby and I make it back to Colorado and get to do some wilderness trekking with the Father.
After a long weekend spent sick at home, a bit of sunshine was just what the doctor ordered. The hubby and I took an easy stroll at the Michigan City Lighthouse, soaking up God’s blessings.
We recently passed one year as husband and wife and did not miss the opportunity to celebrate. I’m still baffled at the lengths to which the hubby will go to woo and spoil me. After driving for less than an hour we came to Serenity Springs, a set of romantic cabins for two tucked in the woods. They were complete with idyllic ponds filled with friendly ducks, geese and one polite swan as well as some short walking and biking trails through the trees. Our two short but happy days honeymooning at the cabin were the perfect way to welcome in our second year of married life. All of this was entirely planned and orchestrated by my wonderful man. Thank God for sending me such a romantic!
This is not a nature photo but these home cooked BBQ ribs that the hubby tended for four hours on his day off looked too good not to share. I can confirm they tasted as delicious as they look. ‘Tis the season! It’s a time of year when all the grill masters take charge of Saturday night dinner and thank God for that! Although we try to live liturgically and abstain from meat on Fridays, the week is full of opportunities to fire up the grill.
Blossoming magnolia trees bless nearly every street corner in Northern Indiana in the Spring, happily heralding warm summer months. During my time in Indiana I’ve made it my mission nearly every year to capture them before they shed their blushing petals.
Now that the ice has melted and the dregs of winter are blowing away, it’s warm enough again for early morning runs through the neighborhood before work which is when I saw these peeking around the side of our house. Even before the Sun began its hike into the sky, God’s beauty still bloomed brightly in lovely pastels.
Anyone who knows me would agree that I am not a thrill seeker. I’m all for an eleven mile quest into the wilderness with my hiking pack and my family but I don’t spend my summers sniffing out the most terrifying rides at the amusement park. Therefore, this photo will likely be the only one of it’s kind. However, I also come from a bustling tourist town nestled in the mountains of Colorado, home to the Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park. My husband’s first trip to Colorado was packed with all the regular touristy experiences in addition to many off road treks. I do believe we successfully hit all seven wonders of Glenwood Springs in a single weekend, including the adventure park. I grew up perfectly happy never having stepped foot on this particular ride but then God sent me the man of my dreams who promised to hold my hand the entire time.
The warm weather finally seems to be sticking after a long, chilly, wet winter with altogether too much rain and too little snow. I pray everyone soon gets to enjoy sunny days like this one.
This will likely be the start of a stupendous slew of spring and summer flower photos but I just love them so much! The other day the hubby and I enjoyed a walk through the neighborhood as we prayed our daily rosary and, naturally, I had to pull over a few times to capture the blossoming branches of every other tree we passed, all adorned in their spring finery. This coupled with the sent of lilacs which trailed us all the way to our front door was all a welcome reminder of God’s beautiful blessings.
