Sometimes the very best thing to do is take a walk around the block which is how I captured these blushing beauties. God’s blessings are all around us if only we look up.

When traveling through the greenery of Norther Indian, I can occasionally hear the dulcet tones of John Denver in my mind. Although I am far from any rocky mountains, there are so many blessings to be found in these Midwestern views.

Amid high winds, crashing waves, and ‘No Swimming’ signage the seagulls took the opportunity to lounge on the beach unchallenged on this May morning. It was a blessing to be able to stroll the beach at the Indiana Dunes although we decided against sunbathing ourselves on this chilly occasion.

Spring is here at long last! I’m celebrating by flaunting my favorite sundresses and sandals as baby girl and I walk through the neighborhood. She loves to point at the blossoming trees as we pass under them and wave at the birds flapping overhead. These are truly blessed days.

My husband and I are waging war this year on the ground ivy that has taken up residence along our back fence and is slowly strangling everything else that might grow there, including the grass. However, even in war there are miracles to be found. The invaders blessed us for a very short time with these bright blooms, calling a temporary ceasefire.

Hello down there! God in His infinite creativity brought forth wonders like this. Hikes through the woods often call to my mind visions of Tolkien’s Middle Earth. While out plumbing the depths of nature’s brilliance, it’s sometimes more shocking not to find elves and hobbits along the path.

Every year I am newly amazed that the yellow blooms are the first to flower, as if announcing the coming of warm yellow days to come while chill spring rain still spatters our windows. Sunny daffodils smile at baby girl and I as we take our walks through the neighborhood, bundled up against the icy wind. Even huddled against the cold, these outings are still a blessing as we witness God’s creative work in real time.

Warmth is creeping into the world and causing color to crackle into life like electricity. God’s blessings spark into existence with the tiniest periwinkle blooms.

Spring is in the air! Even though the trees are still far from full bloom and the winter chill lingers we have been blessed with a slew of warm, sunny afternoons. We made the most of these by showing baby girl how to add some color to these grey Indiana days. Admittedly, at this juncture, mommy and daddy have more fun with the sidewalk chalk than she does but she drank in the warm weather all the same.

Apologies for the dad pun but I couldn’t help myself on this particularly bright afternoon. Even during the long grey Indiana winters, miraculous splotches of color can still be found.
