Although we minimize our trips into Chicago as much as possible, it is always entertaining to spy the city floating over Lake Michigan on a clear day while hiking at the Indiana Dunes. Only faintly visible in the blue haze it stands like the lost city of Atlantis, making you question if it’s even there at all. God blessed us with many sunny days like this one throughout the summer.
This year the hubby and I tried our hand at a small veggie garden, and it was far from a fruitless labor. We spent the entire summer passing cucumbers and tomatoes out to all of our neighbors which turned out to be an excellent way to break the ice with some folks we hadn’t spoken to much before. Who knew fresh vegetables could also aid in growing new friendships. It was a summer full of blessings.
Although I will likely never get used to the Midwest humidity, nature sings a very different tune. It’s a blessing to be able to step out my door into a land where everything grows. The neighborhood is teeming with life and color and I can’t get enough of it.
There is something undeniably miraculous in the natural symmetry of the world. Every petal was grown to reflect His perfect plan.
Even Mr. Mallard knows that hot July days are prime time for a date to the beach where his lady can show off her colors. Even on the lighthouse pier, nature’s blessings can still be seen.
There’s nothing like soaking in God’s blessings and sunshine with a stroll in nature even if there are only 15 minutes to spare.
Although my amateur photography habits have largely been devoted to the newest addition to the family and my all time favorite baby girl, she and I still have time for some walks around the neighborhood. She catches some z’s while I catch the summer hues on my camera. These days are a beautiful blessing.
Summer has come and gone but I can still taste the sweet scent on the warm air from blushing summer evenings like this one. This year we were blessed to savor God’s beauty on many strolls through the neighborhood.
‘Tis the season for celebration and good cheer in the Midwest. Here, one can experience everything from the county fair demolition derbie to pierogi culture in Whiting, IN to the delicious Italian ice served at Italian Fest all in a single weekend. We were blessed to be able to make the rounds to all of our favorite festivals this year where we of course enjoyed the cuisine and the shows unique to each.
In Indiana God’s brilliance smiles from every trimmed, well kept flower bed. The people here always tend their gardens with a hobbit-like love of things that grow. Happy Friday!
